Local school to host a hockey tournament

The tournament costs R5 000 per team, and there can only be 18 players per squad.

Beaulieu College and Beaulieu Hockey Academy will host their annual Co-Ed hockey festival from May 6 to 8.

The festival will be a combined girls’ and boys’ hockey tournament to provide a platform for some of the top co-ed schools around the country to compete against one another in a tournament-styled format.

Both boys’ and girls’ matches will be played at the Beaulieu College AstroTurf and the nearby Dainfern AstroTurf, and five to six matches will be played by each team.

Pool matches will be followed by knockout rounds to determine final placings. Once the number of schools participating is known, fixtures will be determined and communicated.

Reza Rosenberg, head coach of Beaulieu College boys’ hockey team said, “We [tournament organisers] will aim for each school to be based at one AstroTurf for an entire day. Because we wish to alternate boys’ and girls’ matches, there may be a few occasions where a school may need to change venue during the day, but we will try and reduce travelling as much as possible.”

The tournament costs R5 000 per team, and there can only be 18 players per squad. The schools are responsible for paying their own transport and accommodation costs.

Each team is expected to provide an umpire, and there will be qualified medics and an ambulance on-site during the tournament.
“We look forward to having your hockey teams at our festival.”
