Refuse removal affected as Pikitup workers stage a sit-in outside Rabie Ridge Stadium

The sit-in started on May 20, as workers demand their own Region A Pikitup depot.

About 350 workers gathered outside Rabie Ridge Stadium on May 25.

The disgruntled Pikitup employees are from Midrand, Diepsloot and Ivory Park.

The workers demand that Region A must have its own Pikitup Midrand Depot since they used to rent a space in Randjespark.

Pikitup Midrand depot manager Donald Radingoana said, “The employees are demanding their own depot. The sit-in started on Friday [May 20] and we are now trying to utilise our land here [outside Rabie Ridge Stadium] to put in a temporary depot so they can return to work.”

Due to the sit-in, waste collection has been affected in Glen Austin, Kaalfontein, Allandale and Ebony Park since May 20.
