Midrand Cricket Club juniors return from an outstanding performance in Mpumalanga

Midrand Cricket Club's coach said the tour was exciting as well as a fantastic learning experience.

Midrand Sports Academy’s Midrand Cricket Club juniors recently went on a cricket tour in Secunda, Mpumalanga, and had an outstanding performance.

The side played two T20s and one 30-over match against Sasol Secunda Cricket Club’s U13 side. Midrand won the first game by seven wickets, with Aaron Pillay leading the charge.

The home side won the second game, leaving things all even for the final day. The Midrand team finished the job the next day, winning the 30-over match by 56 runs with Sri Sadinen, who was recently selected to represent Easterns Cricket in the winter development programme.

Coach Ryan Maps Munyama of Midrand Sports Academy said, “It was exciting to see so much cricket talent among the boys. The tour was both exciting and a fantastic learning experience. The boys now head into a winter season that will see them playing another three tournaments. The lesson learned on this trip will surely put us in good stead.”

Some of the standout performances on the tour were those of Aaron, who received the bowler of the weekend award, and Railey Gangadeen who received the batter of the weekend award.

Other standout performances came from Phalguna Pakala who was the man of the match on day two of the tournament, scoring 66 runs of 71 balls recording his and the academy’s first half-century.

Rajesh Waran of the Midrand Sports Academy said, “The tour was a great success. The academy is looking forward to its next tour in December which will most likely be to Cape Town.”
