Midrand SPCA coal yard project day a success

Over R14 000 was raised from the fundraiser and the community plans to raise more.

The Midrand SPCA Coal Yard project has caught the attention of some members of the community.

Thelma Fox of the Irene Pony Club Midrand contacted the SPCA and expressed her wish to support the coal yard project and host an event fundraiser on behalf of the animal organisation.

This project was initiated this year in mid-May after the SPCA agreed to provide assistance to horses that they found at the busy intersection on Olifantsfontein Road. The horses had been a hazard to motorists.

“The fundraiser event hosted on June 9 was an absolute success. The community of Randjesfontein came out in full force and everyone contributed. An amazing cake sale was held, boerie rolls were sold and various other food stalls were all in aid of the SPCA and the horses,” said the SPCA in a statement.

More than R14 000 was raised on the day but the generosity of this community has not stopped there and they are still determined to raise more and have already started hosting other initiatives to generate further funds.

The SPCA expressed their gratitude towards the learners and parents of Irene Pony Club Midrand as well as to all members of the public for making the event successful.

“Our society is also super grateful for the donations of dewormer paste, fly masks, blankets, and other goods received,” said the SPCA.
