Rabie Ridge police arrested two suspects in Austin View for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and trying to bribe police officers with R1 000 cash.
According to the spokesperson Sergeant Dipolelo Moremi, the Crime Prevention Unit was conducting a vehicle checkpoint on Dane Road when they stopped a silver Polo with two occupants inside.
“The driver and his passenger were searched and the passenger was in possession of an unlicensed and filed off [number] pistol loaded with 15 bullets. The passenger was arrested and taken to Rabie Ridge Police Station for detention,” said Moremi.

She said while the officer was in the process of arresting the suspect, his friend approached the officer and tried to bribe him.
“And as a result, he was also arrested for [attempting to] bribe the police officer.”
Rabie Ridge Police Station Commander Colonel Johanna Ngoma and her management applauded the unit for their good work.
“The suspects are warned that bribing of law enforcers is a serious crime. It is so good to hear that there are still dedicated SAPS members with integrity to fight crime.”
The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
