Local multitalented resident named one of this year’s Tropika Island Of Treasure’s contenders
The show features an equal number of South African celebrities and public contestants competing in a luxurious, paradise-island location for a cash prize.
Midrand-based multitalented Simphiwe Jack Mabaso is a jack of all trades, proving that certainly talent can not be measured.
Apart from being a musician, Mabaso is also an actor, having appeared in Rhythm City as DJ Walla, Isidingo as a Sibeko employee, and in more Mzansi Magic films.
He previously won Kasi Top 5 with My Airplay’s Jack-Pearl Modiadie on Ukhozi FM coming in from number five to number one in a month.
“I am working on a hit song that is going to be released end of August,” said Mabaso.
“Having the likes of Cassper Nyovest and producer Alie Keys as my mentor and Danny Mdluli as my manager I am making sure that I release good music to people with the taste of amapiano and hip-hop in it.”
Currently, he is one of the 18 contestants of Tropika Island Of Treasure Season 10 which will air end of October to September on SABC 3. The show is a South-African reality competition television series that features an equal number of South African celebrities and public contestants competing in a luxurious, paradise-island location for a cash prize.
“Auditions of the show were happening across the country and I was fortunate enough to be chosen as one of the contestants in the final cast.”
Mabaso has been following the show for nine seasons and when he saw that Tropika was hosting auditions online and live auditions, he decided that this time he is going to enter.

“I went to Sandton City on June 3 which was the first auditions here in Johannesburg as they were also hosting some in Cape Town, to mention a few places.
“I have to be honest that I was not confident with the audition that I did live in Sandton City so as much as they allowed online auditions too, so I decided to go to Straight Hustle Pictures Studio to do a perfect audition that will stand a chance against millions that were coming with their own creations online.”
Mabaso did some shadow boxing with some narration on it and the audition got more than 5 000 views on Twitter with more than 50 retweets, and on Instagram it had 10 000 views and good engagement.
“I am so excited that I am part of the big reality TV and that I have a chance to fly overseas for the first time and get to live on an island,” he concluded.
