Multiple hijackings in Midrand prompted a rapid special operation

Residents are encouraged to take precautions against suspicious activities.

A special operation was rapidly planned and executed the same morning following multiple reports of hijacking incidents in Midrand in the early hours of July 18.

The special operations included Midrand police, Sector 2 Crime Forum patrollers, Hawkeye Security, TRSS Security, and Lifestyle Rescues Security.

With the goal of surveillance and investigations into suspicious activity in the area, multiple vehicles were checked in Vorna Valley and Halfway Gardens.

“During the special operation we had no reports of hijacking incidents which is ultimately the outcome that we aimed to achieve,” said Nolan Naidoo of Midrand Sector 2.

Midrand Police Station Commander Brigadier Molefe David Tsotsotso applauded the patrollers and security companies for the excellent work that they have been doing for the community.

“Our relationship with all five Sector Crime Forums in Midrand and the security companies is appreciated because they get to respond fast to criminal activities happening in the areas. President Park and Glen Austin are the hotspots of most hijackings so we are going to target those areas more,” said Tsotsotso.
