Goal-poacher commits to over 20 goals in the SAB league

Star striker Gift Matjokotja (23) vows to take the SAB Regional league by storm and continue banging in goals for his team, Indlovu FC.

After scoring an astonishing 26 goals in 30 games for Inldovu FC in the Midrand Local Football Association (MLFA), Gift Matjokotja has vowed to score even more goals in the SAB Regional League.

Matjokotja (23), also known as Mmola, said although it was a tough season, heaped praise on his teammates and described them as ‘extra ordinary’ players for fighting throughout the season and getting promoted.

The sensational goal poacher from Ivory Park said he wanted to put in more effort and remain disciplined, and has set a target of at least 20 goals in the Regional League.

“When the MLFA season started, I set a target for myself of scoring more goals than the games I would have played. However, that did not pan out as planned but I am extremely happy with my achievements so far. I think my teammates also deserve a big credit because, without them, I don’t think I would have scored so many goals,” said Matjokotja.

During Indlovu’s prize-giving ceremony at Kyalami Preparatory School on July 30, Matjokotja scooped the top goal scorer, most disciplined, and players’ player of the season (which he shared with Sipho Gwaqubana), awards.

Matjokotja said he was eyeing achieving more in the Regional League.

“I am going there to show my potential. I am willing to fight and I can tell you now, I also want to be a top goal scorer there as well. If I can score 20 goals, I think I would have achieved my dream because I believe it’s achievable.”

The versatile player said he had previously played as a centre-back and left winger but was happy in the striker’s role.
