The South African entertainment industry has come a long way from the days when fun activities were restricted to theatre and sports, and today we can enjoy a whole variety.
In search of greener pastures, Phalaborwa-born Lebo Chiloane moved to Gauteng to study human resources at Tshwane North College and ended up running his own entertainment company in Midrand.
Runmidrand is both an entertainment and original talent production company whose sole purpose is to create a bridge between upcoming artists and DJs.

Speaking to Midrand Reporter, Chiloane said Runmindrand sought to create and uphold a culture that embraced and promoted local talent.
“We want and strive to open all [closed] doors on artists or deejays we come across when proposing concepts and to influence a culture of lending a helping hand in diverse South African industries,” said Chiloane.
The company also specialises in organising events, photography, and music production among other things.

The road to starting his own business was never a walk in the park for Chiolane since he had to quit his nine-to-five job to fully focus on his company.
“I initially started as an event organiser and approached the Boulder Lodge’s owner looking for a venue to start hosting events in 2017. In July of the same year, I hosted my first event at the lodge which was a huge success, and from there I was allowed to host events at the lodge whenever I wanted.”
Chiloane gained a reputation as he hosted event after event, and people would praise him by saying he ‘runs Midrand’ hence the name Runmidrand.
From there the brand expanded and he started Runpretoria and Runpalaborwa. He became involved with many business partners in his journey, and when one of his most trusted associates, Billy Pila passed away due to Covid-19, it affected him a lot.

“After Billy passed away, I worried about how I would run this business on my own. Despite starting alone, I couldn’t imagine running a company without him due to our mutual advice. I was almost ready to give up because the pandemic was getting worse and my business was starting to crumble.”
As the entertainment industry grew, Chiloane believed there would be genres of music that would influence fashion, hence, he said it was important to collaborate with the youth given that they were the timekeepers of trends.
