President Park philanthropist Dr Eli Shadung honoured with a doctorate

In support of her achievement, community members attended her honorary doctorate graduation on August 14.

President Park philanthropist Dr Eli Shadung has volunteered in charity work since 1997, serving as a board member for a variety of charities.

She was recently awarded her doctorate, Doctor of Ministry, from Trinity International Bible University for her work in identifying problems and challenges in ministry settings and applying existing research to develop fresh solutions.

“This is a great achievement for my lifetime. I feel honoured and blessed by the grace of the Lord. Especially to be honoured in this month of women is a privilege and I give this award to the Almighty for carrying me through it all.

“I am delighted and greatly appreciate this opportunity and the honour given by Trinity International Bible University, and all the professors and board from the university for assessing and evaluating me,” said Shadung at her graduation ceremony.

The university was founded in 2001 to teach and train ministers and Christian workers under the banner of God’s inerrant word.

Among Shadung’s other work for the community, she has trained staff at Tumelo Home as caregivers and worked with social workers Christelle Coleman and Emily Teffo to promote social change, problem-solving in human relationships, empowerment, and liberation of communities and improve their quality of life.

Before her involvement in charity work, she studied political science and psychology at the University of Venda. A few years later, she was awarded the best student award in counselling and research, allowing her to be appointed a psychology lecturer before she resigned in 1994.

“I decided to be a community-oriented servant of God than to be a corporate employee because I love my community and my nation.”

As it was still Women’s Month, Shadung dedicated her doctorate to women and encouraged them to stand up and face this world with boldness, love, care, respect, and show humility.

In support of Shadung’s achievement, community members attended her honorary doctorate graduation on August 14 in President Park.

“Thank you to friends, colleagues, doctors, nurses, teachers, football clubs in Ebony Park, my NPO Elderly Club, neighbours, and others for making this graduation special for me.

“The only way you can serve God is by serving other people.”
