Ward 112 councillor encourages residents to get involved in a clean-up operation
Councillor Lerato Mphefo has formed partnerships with local residents and businesses and invites anyone who would like to be part of the effort to get involved.
Keeping Midrand clean is a priority not only for residents but for the ward councillors and the City of Johannesburg.
Ward 112 councillor Lerato Mphefo set out on a two-day clean-up operation in Noordwyk on August 18 and 19.
The councillor was assisted by Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD), Augmented Field Services, the City of Johannesburg’s Citizen Relationship and Urban Management, Environmental Health Department, and Pikitup.
Mphefo said their goal was to deal with illegal businesses, food trailers without permits, and sidewalk businesses that burn fires throughout the day and pollute the environment.

“Traders must know it is against the by-laws to make fires on sidewalks and JMPD can issue a fine for that. I urge them to enquire on how to obtain an informal trading permit at the local municipality offices at 300 15th Road, Randjespark, Midrand to avoid impoundment,” said the councillor.
“We also picked up litter, removed illegal [advertising] boards and all other issues making our area dirty and unsafe which reduces the value of our properties and contributes to urban decay.
“This area is still a work in progress and this is a battle which can only be won if we all work together.”

Community stakeholders and residents are invited to join the clean-up operations. Mphefo has formed partnerships with some residents and businesses in the area and welcomes anyone who would like to be part of this initiative.
Details: To join the clean-up operation residents can call the councillor on 082 960 7043 or email leratomphe@joburg.org.za.
