Society of Animals in Distress take donors and residents on a tour in celebration of World Animal Day

As the world celebrated World Animal Day on October 4, there was a buzz of activities at the Society of Animals in Distress.
The staff of the society took donors and residents on a tour of their hospital and animal holding facilities in Vorna Valley.

The admin and donor manager of the society Sally Tagg led the tour and told the visitors their hospital had 205 dog and cat kennels. There was loud barking when the visitors entered the dogs’ kennels to the excitement of the youngsters who were accompanied by their parents. The youngsters were advised not to stick their hands into the kennels as that might lead to unpleasant reactions from some of the dogs.

The group then visited the ICU section of the hospital where critically injured animals were treated.
“We also have two equine ambulances in case of emergency for all the animals we treat and three operating vehicles that attend to emergencies in various communities we service. We want people and the community at large to know that our beloved animals also have rights that need to be respected,” said Tagg.

Tagg said the society aimed to officially open its charity shop in November where residents could donate unwanted items that were in good condition for re-selling to raise funds for the animal organisation. The shop was open for the day with items such as clothes, electrical appliances and books on sale.
