Midrand women invited to a self-defence class

Chairperson of the Midrand Sector 3 Crime Forum Marvin Maphiri believes the self defence classes will give women valuable lessons to defend themselves against mugging and robbery.

After seeing many women being victims of mugging and robbery the Midrand Sector 3 Crime Forum organised self-defence classes to equip women against perpetrators.

Forum chairperson Marvin Maphiri said it’s critical that women attend the classes aimed at providing the necessary defence skills to protect themselves. “They will be trained by professional trainers and will also receive invaluable tips and tricks to use in their daily lives when encountering challenges. This is going to be a fruitful lesson for many of them as they will be taught quick, effective and usable self-defence skills,” said Maphiri.

The forum, in conjunction with On Point Protection Skills (OPPS) International, will hold the classes on October 16 from 08:00 to 11:00 at Carlswald’s Gecko Jewellers.

Maphiri said the classes will cost R495 per person and children between 12 and 17 years old will be charged R225.

He said for each member that enrols for the Sunday classes, the forum will receive 20% from their entry – which will be helpful in their fundraising endeavours.
