Midrand police confirm Pearl Shongwe was found dead in her apartment in Midrand
The Midrand police spokesperson says drugs were also found inside the deceased flat.
The country was shocked when news broke that 35-year-old broadcaster and newsreader Pearl Shongwe was found dead in her Midrand flat on November 8.
Midrand Police Station spokesperson Constable Eliot Mabulane said the deceased was found inside her flat by a family member. ADT Fidelity security helped to remove the window from the main bedroom to gain entry to the apartment as it was locked. “Upon entry, they [family member and security] came across a lifeless body of a female [Shongwe] whom they could identify. Police were contacted [along] with other relevant role players,” said Mabulane.
She was declared dead by Gauteng Emergency Medical Services. Further investigations are underway to determine the cause of death.
Shongwe began her career as an entertainment reporter at YFM in 2010. She was also a presenter on Daily Thetha and One Day Leader as well as a Metro FM newsreader.
The spokesperson for the family, Kehla Tshabalala, said funeral and memorial arrangements were still being discussed by the family.
