Christ Embassy organises a walk against social ills with Midrand police and JMPD

With banners in hand, close to 30 residents including church members walked down Richards Drive into Gallagher Avenue to Boulders Taxi Rank.

There are many social challenges South Africa continues to face, including drug abuse, poverty, gender-based violence (GBV), and unemployment to name a few.

The global pandemic that hit in early 2020, followed by the hard lockdowns, severely affected the local communities – escalating to more social ills.

In a demonstration of their commitment to combating these social ills in the Midrand community, Christ Embassy Church collaborated with Ward 110 councillor Angelinah Mphaho, Midrand Police Station, and the Joburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) to host a walk against social ills on October 29.

It is the church’s goal to transform the community not only through teaching the word of God but also by reaching out to educate and help those most affected by social problems. Christ Embassy Pastor Joyline Josamu explained that many youth are without hope of a future, or opportunities, and thus are turning to alcohol, drugs, and crime in order to survive, which is why the walk was organised. “This walk is different from any walks because it was a call to whoever that needs healing in any area of their lives. It was a call to bring lasting changes in our community at large,” said Josamu.

With banners in hand, close to 30 residents including church members walked down Richards Drive into Gallagher Avenue to Boulders Taxi Rank. While marching to the rank, they distributed social ills books and papers to residents, while the JMPD led at the front to ensure the group had a clear path.
