More than 50 Midrand Striders members to participate in half-marathon
Midrand Striders Running Club chairperson believes that as the road running calendar returns post Covid-19 years, they hopeful and adamant that races will also recover.
Midrand Striders Running Club chairperson Lwazi Khumalo said about 56 club members would start their year by participating in the Dis-Chem half-marathon 2023.
The 21km race will be held in Bedfordview on January 15.
She said the 2022 Comrades Marathon taking place later than usual, really upset the running calendar. “So we are really looking forward to going back to our usual races and supporting running clubs to the build-up of Comrades 2023. This weekend we will be running the 21st edition of the Dis-Chem 21km in Bedfordview which is a challenging course with spectacular views. Winding through the hills of Bedfordview, Morninghill and Primrose,” added Khumalo.
She said the club was keen to continue building good relationships with their runners and neighbouring running clubs as their philosophy remained ‘fun, fitness and friendship’.
“Running clubs all over have grappled with an array of challenges post the Covid-19 pandemic and all the related lockdowns but fortunately the spirit of road runners has not been detoured. Although our membership numbers have taken a knock during the Covid pandemic, we have continued to host our weekly group runs, Tuesday and Thursday at 17:30 and Sunday mornings at 06:30.”
Khumalo concluded that Striders planned to host their annual 60km and 21km Comrades training run later this year ahead of the 2023 Comrades Marathon.
