Christ Church is ready to present Roald Dahl’s Matilda to its learners

The show was announced on May 12 by the college production head and it will take place from June 7-9.

Christ Church Preparatory School and College will be filled with rebellion on June 7-9 when the school’s production team presents Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical JR.

The show was announced to the learners on May 12 by the head of the college production and professional actor Khaya Thusi.

Based on the beloved book Matilda by Roald Dahl, and adapted from the award-winning full-length musical, Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical JR tells the story of an extraordinary girl who, armed with a vivid imagination and a sharp mind, dares to take a stand and change her own destiny.

“One of my favourite moments early in the show is when Matilda sings, ‘Just because you find that life’s not fair, it doesn’t mean that you have to grin and bear it. If you always take it on the chin and wear it nothing will change,” said Thusi.

“It is such a powerful reminder for all South Africans as we have been tossed by life from conquering different pandemics, load shedding, and unending economic instability — tall and small, we must take ownership of how we can create our reality and secure a good future for the next generation.”

Thusi who is also a dramatic arts teacher at the school said the learners are joining together and working hard to create this extraordinary event for their school community.

“Through the process of putting on this musical, our learners are doing just that. We think they deserve a standing ovation for all their work,” he concluded.
