Midrand Local Football Association to host women’s tournament in August
The chairperson of the Midrand Local Football Associations urge local business to sponsor the tournament and partner with them to support a girl child.
The Midrand Local Football Association (MLFA) invites women’s teams to partake in a planned first edition of a women’s soccer tournament to be held in August.
Association chairperson, Sthembiso Buthelezi said the competition will be held on August 12, at the Rabie Ridge Stadium, as part of the National Women’s Day celebration, commemorated on August 9.
Buthelezi said they were looking at having this as an annual tournament.
“We plan to have 16 teams – 12 teams from Midrand and four teams from different Local Football Associations. We plan to provide one sanitary pad for each player and guest speaker to motivate players about teenage pregnancy and gender-based violence,” said Buthelezi.

He said the winner of the tournament will take home a trophy, medals and soccer kit, while the runner’s up will walk away with only medals and soccer kit.
“Third prize will be medals and bibs. There will also be individual prices in the following categories: player of the tournament, best female referee of the tournament, coach of the tournament and top goal scorer.”
Buthelezi said they wish to call on all Midrand individuals and businesses to donate anything towards this tournament and to partner with the association.
