Noordwyk Residents Association to help community

Chairperson of the newly formed Noordwyk Resident Association NPO hopes to help residents with municipal issues.

The new Noordwyk Residents Association (NRA-NPO) is ready to hit the ground running and fight illegal dumping that has plagued the area, among other issues.

Chairperson of the association, Ian Maclean explained how the association came about and urged residents to bear with them along the way as they get stuck into issues affecting the area.

He said the reasons to take the association to the level of NPO were that it would be seen as a professional organisation and give it more credibility when dealing with the city, SAPS, and Johannesburg Metro Police Department.
“We found that residents wanted to complain, but not get involved. Therefore, on July 4, the NRA-NPO was formed with a committee consisting of a chairperson, vice chairperson, treasurer and a secretary with whatever issues we can help them with,” said Maclean.

“We are in discussion with the relevant departments at CoJ with the assistance of our councillor [Lerato Mphefo] regarding several residents’ concerns which we hope will start to be addressed shortly. We are also embarking on a clean-up campaign in conjunction with our councillor and the city regarding the rubbish and illegal dumping which is plaguing our suburb and hope to get residents involved with this project and join the NRA-NPO.”

He added two of their members, Chris Fisher and Yogan Govender had been trying to get the community involved in cleaning up the decay in the suburb for more than two years to no avail. However, he said one of the leading estate agencies in South Africa had come on board as their first sponsor and they were looking forward to working closely with them in the Noordwyk restoration programme.
He urged residents to visit the association’s website (www.noordwykra.co.za) which so far has attracted more than 3 000 visitors. An official WhatsApp group (Noordwyk Residents NPO) was introduced two weeks ago and already 87 residents have joined.
