New leaders for the Midrand pioneers

Nova Pioneer is excited to announce the new school leaders for its Midrand schools.

Nova Pioneer has welcomed Thokozani Mhlanga and Sizo Chalufu as the new school leaders of Nova Pioneer Midrand Primary and Nova Pioneer Midrand Senior School respectively.

Chalufu was previously a dean of instruction at Nova Pioneer Ormonde Senior School and now returns to Nova Pioneer after three years at St. Stithians College.

In addition to his time at Nova Pioneer and St. Stithians, Chalufu has worked at Michaelhouse, Hilton College, and St. Charles College in KwaZulu Natal.

He is described as a dedicated instructional leader and culture builder who has served in both instructional and pastoral leadership roles over his career.

Chalufu is also in the process of receiving his Master’s Degree in Education and Instructional Technology from the University of Johannesburg, a Diploma in Business Administration from Varsity College, and a Bachelor of Education with Honours from the University of KwaZulu Natal.

“I am thrilled to return to Nova Pioneer, this time as a school leader of the senior school at the Midrand campus. I am certain that my teaching experience of over 20 years and various leadership roles in which I have been involved within the education space will help me contribute to Nova Pioneer’s educational excellence,” said Chalufu.

“One of my goals is to foster a culture where learners’ voices are heard and valued. I believe in creating an environment that encourages open communication, collaboration, and critical thinking as this will equip our Novaneers with the skills they need for the future.

Mhlanga joins Nova Pioneer from Future Nations Schools, where he served as head of both the foundation and intermediate phases over the past eight years.

An educator since 2004, Mhlanga has taught and led across both private and public schools, as well as serving as a teacher developer with Instil Education and Acorn Education.

He holds a Bachelor Degree with Honours in Health and Social Sciences from the University of South Africa, as well as a Diploma in Education from the University of Witwatersrand with a focus on teaching English as a second language, and a Diploma in Primary Education from the University of Zimbabwe.

“As a teacher for the past 25 years, I have dedicated myself to nurturing the minds of young individuals and fostering their social and emotional intelligence. My passion for teaching has driven me to create a learning environment that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and empathy. I believe in the power of education to transform lives and inspire positive change.”

“My journey as an educator has been incredibly fulfilling, as I have witnessed the growth and success of countless learners. I am committed to shaping the leaders of tomorrow and sparking a love for learning that will last a lifetime.”
