IIE’s Varsity College Waterfall head of education promises to bring changes

Masters degree to bring change for The IIE’s Varsity College Waterfall students.

Sumayya Khan, the head of education at The IIE’s Varsity College Waterfall, achieved a remarkable feat by obtaining a Master of Education in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) from The University of Johannesburg (UJ).

Her thesis was titled First-year Student’s Experience with Online Learning at a Private Higher Education Institution During COVID-19.

Khan shared that she pursued her master’s degree in honour of her late father, who believed that education was the key to unlocking various opportunities.

She credits her master’s degree with offering her a unique perspective on knowledge acquisition, which she never thought was possible before.

Khan chose her thesis title because the Covid-19 pandemic disrupted everyone’s lives, and the sudden shift to online learning for first-year students at a private higher education institution brought various changes, challenges, and impacts.

She closely monitored these changes to determine the ultimate experience of these students during COVID-19.

Her research focused on exploring and understanding how students coped with social and emotional barriers to ensure success and how they overcame failure.

She believes that as the field of education continually evolves alongside the rapid advancements in information and ICT, students need to be well-prepared for the ever-changing landscape of the professional world.

By leveraging her academic experience and real-life developments in ICT education, Khan will impart her enriched knowledge to students, enabling them to acquire the necessary skills for success in their future careers.

By bridging the gap between theory and practice, students will have the opportunity to implement cutting-edge approaches to ICT education, equipping them with the tools needed to thrive in an increasingly digital society.
