President Park and Glen Austin to be among affected suburbs as high water consumption skyrockets – JW

In a statement released on March 8, Joburg Water said currently, President Park Reservoir is one of the Johannesburg Water’s top 10 highest consuming meters in the city.

Johannesburg Water (JW) has issued a stern warning to the residents of President Park, Rabie Ridge, Glen Austin and Austin View to use water sparingly.

JW said currently, President Park Reservoir is one of Johannesburg Water’s top 10 highest consuming meters in the city, with Ivory Park, Ebony Park, Kaalfontein, and Mayibuye residents being the highest water consumers.

In a statement by the water utility on March 22, it said the implications of high consumption by the four areas will hurt other suburbs in this supply zone, including Rabie Ridge, Austin View, Glen Austin, Glen Acres, Umthombo, and Randjespark Estate and surrounding areas.

“Residents are implored to take immediate action to reduce water consumption as water scarcity continues to represent a significant challenge to our community. Two key issues that contribute to the high-consumption rate are on-property leaks as well as non-paying customers who bypass the system through illegal connections,” read the statement.

JW further appealed to all residents, businesses, and institutions in these identified areas to implement water-saving practices.

“Please work with us to use water wisely. This is essential in alleviating the pressure on the system and ensuring a sustainable water supply for all residents in the long term. Once again, we implore you to work with us by repairing your on-property leaks as well as paying for your water services.”

The statement said this will be crucial in reducing system stress and guaranteeing a long-term, sustainable water supply for all residents.
