Boulders Shopping Centre donates goods worth R14 000 to Broadwalk Urban Village fire victims
A significant number of stores from the shopping centre participated in this charitable effort, putting together care packages of toiletries, food, and clothing to aid those affected by the fire.
Following the devastating fire that left many residents of Broadwalk Urban Village without shelter or food, Boulders Shopping Centre made a commendable donation of essential items on September 25 to support those affected.
This initiative aimed to provide immediate relief during a challenging time. Sandy Mabena, the marketing manager for Boulders, expressed gratitude for the remarkable effort of the shopping centre’s tenants, who gathered donations worth approximately R14 000 in just one day.

The donations included thoughtfully prepared gift bags containing crucial items like toiletries, food, and clothing to help residents rebuild their lives. On September 26, the Boulders team continued with more donations and additional support for the affected families. “These donations are essential as we understand the urgent needs of the community during this difficult period,” said Mabena.

The gift bags were carefully curated to address immediate needs, featuring items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, lotion, towels, roll-on deodorants, and sanitary pads for women. Many stores within the shopping centre participated in this charitable effort.
Mabena highlighted the broader implications of the fire, noting, “when our customers suffer, we feel it doubly. This situation will directly impact us, particularly through decreased foot traffic.”
She explained that during crises, people prioritise essential needs and focus on recovering their assets, which negatively affects local economies by reducing disposable income and spending at Boulders Shopping Centre.
Mabena concluded by reaffirming the shopping centre’s commitment to the community, emphasising their genuine care for customers and readiness to assist whenever needed.
