JMPD will respond to R55 reckless driving
Ward 132 councillor Annette Deppe said the reckless driving was unacceptable behaviour which not only frustrates other motorists but also poses a substantial risk to pedestrians and other road users.
JMPD spokesperson Superintendent Xolani Fihla said they were aware of the complaint sent by Ward 132 councillor Annette Deppe to the regional office about reckless driving on the R55.

Deppe wrote a letter asking for the department’s intervention. In the letter, titled: Urgent request for traffic enforcement on the R55, Deppe urged JMPD officials to enforce existing municipal by-laws.
Fihla said, “While the JMPD can not permanently station a vehicle at the specific location due to operational constraints, units have been alerted and are responding to the situation. Please note that matters of this nature are not governed by local by-laws but are addressed under the National Road Traffic Act.”

In the article, Disaster waiting to happen on the R55, the councillor said there were instances of taxis running red lights, particularly at Kyalami Estate.
“This unacceptable behaviour not only frustrates other motorists but also poses a substantial risk to pedestrians and other road users. “Despite previous meetings initiated by former Region A director Abigail Ndlovu, nearly two years ago, there has been little progress in addressing these concerns,” said Deppe.
She believes a consistent and visible presence of traffic enforcement was essential to restoring order and safety for all road users.
Deppe hopes that the right steps will be taken to mitigate this ongoing issue.
