JW reminds of scheduled maintenance from June 30 to July 2

JW reminds that residents that major maintenance by Rand Water from June 30 to July 2 will temporarily affect water supply across Johannesburg.

Johannesburg Water (JW) has issued a reminder about significant maintenance work scheduled by Rand Water, set to take place from June 30, to July 2. This essential work will impact the city’s water systems, causing disruptions in several areas as Rand Water conducts repairs on its Eikenhof and Zwartkopjes infrastructure.

The maintenance activities include pipe leak repairs at Zuikerbosch plant, starting at 05:00 on June 30 and continuing until 05:00 on July 2. During this period, the affected JW systems will include the Commando system, covering Hursthill, Brixton, and Crosby, Lenasia, Randburg, Roodepoort, Soweto, Crown Gardens, Eagles Nest, and Aeroton reservoirs. Pumping will be reduced to 50% for the duration of the 48-hour repair window. It is important to note that it may take several days after the completion of maintenance for these systems to fully recover and for normal water pressure to be restored.

Additionally, valve replacements at Zwartkopjes station will commence on June 30 at 05:00, scheduled to conclude at 07:00 on July 2. During this time, there will be no pumping in areas including Crown Gardens, Eagles Nest, Parktown, Berea, Forest Hill, Naturena, Alan Manor, and Hector Norris pump station. Residents in these areas may experience low pressure or no water supply during the maintenance period. Full recovery and normal service are expected to take several days after the work is completed.

Residents are strongly encouraged to prepare by storing sufficient water in advance of the scheduled maintenance. JW has assured the public that arrangements will be in place to supply water via roaming and stationary tankers to affected areas. Critical facilities such as hospitals, clinics, and old-age homes will be prioritised to ensure ongoing operations during the maintenance.

JW will continue to provide updates on the progress of the repairs and system recovery. Residents are advised to stay informed and plan accordingly to minimise inconvenience during this essential maintenance period.
