AfriForum steps in the aid family of slain youth
The case involves Sekhukhune United FC attacker Shaune Mogaile, who crashed head-on into the victim’s car last year October.
In a letter to the Rabie Ridge station commander, AfriForum has confirmed that they are assisting Keo Mavimbela, the mother of 9-year-old Gomolemo, who died in a car crash in 2024.
Forum spokesperson Barry Bateman said advocates Gerrie Nel and Phyllis Vorster were briefed by Mavimbela and Carol Khethiwa, the mother of 14-year-old Thando, who was injured during the fatal accident.

Bateman said the forum is now acting on their behalf.
The collision occurred on October 30, 2024, on Andrew Mapheto Road in Tembisa, when Sekhukhune United FC player Shaune Mogaile’s vehicle collided, head-on, with Mavimbela’s.
The accident severely injured Mavimbela, while her daughter died on the spot. Thando, who was also in the vehicle, was injured.
“Our clients not only continue to bear the physical, mental, and financial scars of Gomolemo’s untimely death; they have also been unable to find closure,” said Bateman in the letter.
He said they understand their clients’ desperate need for answers and feedback on the status of the investigation.
In the latest court appearance, on June 24, the matter was postponed to September 16, because the blood alcohol report was allegedly still outstanding. The matter is still under investigation.
“Our clients have attempted to follow the progress by attending court,” said Bateman. “The reasons tendered by the state for each of the postponements have been met with disbelief by our clients, as the SAPS still requires until September 16 to complete the investigation.”
