Matthews Sesoko, head of investigations and operations at the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC), was kidnapped on the evening of November 7.
In a statement, IDAC spokesperson Henry Mamothame said the attackers assaulted Sesoko and abandoned him near Rabie Ridge on the morning of November 8, taking his cell phone and laptop.

“While the NPA is wary of making any speculation on the motive behind such horrific action and whether it is related to his work, the incident, and its timing, reflect the possible dangers in this space.
“The incident has been reported to the police for criminal investigation.”
Sesoko was part of the investigation that led to the arrest of crime intelligence head Dumisani Khumalo in June.
His kidnapping comes in the wake of IDAC head advocate Andrea Johnson’s testimony before parliament’s ad hoc committee last week.

Advocate Johnson testified before the committee on claims made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
Johnson revealed that, since the June arrest of Khumalo, who faces fraud and corruption charges alongside other senior police officials, she and her team have been subjected to intimidation.
