Gauteng police seize drugs worth R300 000 at a lodge in Midrand

It was established that the manager of the lodge is the only one with access to the two specific rooms.

The South African Police Service in Gauteng recently discovered a drug lab and seized drugs worth R300 000 at a lodge in Midrand.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, on March 24 members of the Organised Crime Investigation Unit acted on information about a suspected drug lab at a lodge in Midrand.

“The members swiftly sprang into action and upon arrival, two rooms were searched, leading to the discovery of suspected cocaine rocks, crystal meth, ecstasy tablets, chemicals and laboratory apparatus,” said Nevhuhulwi.

“It was further established that the manager of the lodge is the only one with access to the two specific rooms. He was arrested and charged with illegal manufacturing and dealing in drugs.”

Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Elias Mawela applauded the good work done by the members in removing drugs from the streets of Gauteng.

“We remain resolute in the fight against the scourge of drug abuse and we will continue ensuring that those who deal in drugs are identified and brought to book,” concluded Mawela.
