This was when the animal welfare organisation held its first-ever Christmas market on the lush grounds of its property in Vorna Valley, Midrand. The event welcomed more than 40 enthusiastic vendors who brought creativity and colour to the day.
Perhaps the highlight of the day was Zeus, Said’s resident donkey who charmed visitors in his reindeer antler headband. His cheerful presence captured the hearts of young and old alike, spreading festive cheer.
Said’s fundraising manager Keshvi Nair said the event was an experience filled with joy, laughter, and a collective spirit of giving, all for a cause close to their hearts.
“Our vision has always been to unite people who share our love and compassion for animals,” said Nair. “And to see families, friends, and even strangers come together in support of our cause, was truly heartwarming. It was not just about shopping or selling – it was about making a difference.

“For Said, a proud animal welfare organisation, this event was about more than just festive fun. It was an opportunity for the community to come together to support the critical work we do in caring for animals and their owners, especially those in need.”

She added the funds raised from the market would go towards sustaining their mission of providing essential veterinary services, education, and outreach.
Nair said for the vendors, the event not only provided a chance to showcase their products but also to meet people in the community and contribute to a meaningful cause in the course of the organisation’s work.
“For attendees, the market offered a unique opportunity to tick items off their Christmas shopping lists while supporting local artisans and small businesses. From handcrafted jewellery to gourmet delights, the diversity of offerings ensured there was something for everyone. The overwhelming support from the community, both near and far, and the enthusiasm of our vendors made this inaugural market an unforgettable experience. We couldn’t have asked for a better way to kick off what we hope will become an annual tradition,” added Nair.
She also gave a special shout-out to Ria Sebetsa Security Services, who generously provided security for the day free of charge, and Medi Response, who ensured everyone’s safety with complimentary paramedic and medical services.
Nair concluded that as they reflected on this achievement, they extended their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who attended, contributed, or cheered from afar.
