Eli Young’s sporting journey reaches new heights after joining Mamelodi Sundowns FC this year
Following his younger brother's impressive success in the RCLFA U9, the Summerhill School SA learner has taken significant steps towards making a name for himself among South Africa’s promising soccer stars.
Following Summerhill School SA learner Eli Young is following in the footsteps of his younger brother Cael.
Cael was part of the team that won the Rand Central Local Football Association U9 premier league.
Eli is working hard to establish himself among South Africa’s up-and-coming top players. This year has been particularly remarkable for him, marked by significant achievements that reflect his talent and dedication.

The entire school community is extraordinarily proud to witness yet another learner excelling in sports and achieving remarkable feats on the field.
This year, Eli earned a prestigious opportunity to join Mamelodi Sundowns FC in July. Since joining, he has been instrumental in leading the Sundowns U12 team to several tournament victories, including the RCLFA U12 Divisional League and the League Cup. His contributions highlight not only his talent but also the value of teamwork and perseverance.

The Sundowns U12 team also travelled to Cape Town to compete in the highly regarded Kapstadt Cup 2024. They faced strong competition from teams nationwide and triumphed over Cape Town Spurs in the final, securing the tournament championship and reinforcing their reputation in youth soccer.
Additionally, Eli represented the Elite Fives soccer team in the annual Discovery Soccer Park Indoor Spring League in October. The team displayed exceptional skills and teamwork, remaining unbeaten and winning the U12 division championship. This victory further showcases Eli’s capability to perform under pressure.
Looking ahead, Eli is set to participate in the Iber Cup in December, an exciting international tournament featuring teams from around the world, including renowned clubs such as Paris St Germain, Espanyol De Barcelona, and Benfica to name a few.
Both the school and Eli’s parents take immense pride in his achievements this year and eagerly anticipate his future endeavours. They wish him the best of luck as he prepares for the upcoming tournaments, confident that he will continue to excel on the field and fully embrace these valuable experiences.
