JMPD Tactical Response Unit arrests two suspects for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Carlswald
While patrolling in Midrand, near Carlswald, JMPD TRU officers noticed a suspicious-looking vehicle with four male occupants, including the driver. After following them for a while, they pulled them over and arrested two suspects in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department’s Tactical Response Unit (JMPD TRU) arrested two suspects in Midrand for possessing two firearms and ammunition.
They were detained at the Midrand Police Station.
While patrolling near Carlswald, in Midrand, on April 20, JMPD TRU officers noticed a suspicious-looking white Toyota Etios, with four male occupants, including the driver.

JMPD spokesperson Superintendent Xolani Fihla stated that the officers followed the vehicle at a distance and requested backup from Region A operations officers.
“The officers then stopped the vehicle,” said Fihla. “As they did so, two males jumped out and fled the scene towards Blue Hills.”

The officers approached the remaining suspects in the vehicle, conducted a search, and recovered an unlicensed firearm, and a revolver with its serial numbers filed off, from the driver. They also found live ammunition in the vehicle.

“Both suspects were arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and were detained at Midrand SAPS. The vehicle was impounded at the Aeroton Police Station Pound,” said Fihla. “This is part of our efforts to ensure that the rule of law is upheld in the City of Johannesburg.”
