Nizamiye Primary and High School Midrand triumph in regional debate, advance to the national championship

School principal Huseyin Gencel said the school's qualification for the National Debate League Championship is a huge achievement.

The Nizamiye Primary and High School in Midrand has achieved a remarkable milestone by emerging victorious in the Regional Midrand Debate League.

This means the Halfway House-based school secured its position as one of the top debating schools in the region.

Additionally, this outstanding accomplishment qualifies the school for the National Debate League Championship in Durban.

They will be competing among 36 elite teams representing 27 schools from across South Africa.

Nasreen Jeewa, the school’s debate coordinator, speaking about the victors, expressed immense pride in her learners’ dedication and intellectual maturity.

“Our learners showcased not only their debating skills but also their commitment to respectful discourse and constructive dialogue. Their success is a reflection of hard work, discipline, and the support of our entire school community,” said Jeewa.

She said the National Debate League Championship features teams from diverse provinces, offering Nizamiye’s debaters a platform to engage on national issues.

Jeewa concluded that this will sharpen their learners’ analytical abilities and represent the Midrand region on a prestigious stage.

School principal Huseyin Gencel congratulated the team, highlighting the school’s commitment to nurturing excellence beyond the classroom.

“At Nizamiye, we believe in developing well-rounded learners—critical thinkers who can confidently express themselves and contribute positively to society. This achievement is a proud moment for our school and community,” said Gencel.
