City Power warns of grid constraints as Rabie Ridge outage investigated
City Power urges residents to reduce electricity usage amid a constrained power system, while technicians investigate a localised outage in Rabie Ridge Extension 05.
City Power has issued a warning to customers across its supply areas, cautioning that the electricity network is currently constrained and at risk of overloading if consumption is not reduced.
The utility appealed to residents and businesses to use electricity sparingly to help stabilise the system.
The alert comes as the City Power Midrand Service Delivery Centre (SDC) manages a growing volume of service requests.

According to the statement released by the utility, the centre is sitting with 68 open calls; 57 of those have been logged in the past 24 hours.
“We have dispatched our operators to investigate the cause of a power outage affecting customers in Rabie Ridge Extension 05. Further updates will be provided in due course.
During an outage, unplug all appliances to prevent inrush current when the power supply is restored. This minimises the risk of network disruptions and ensures a continuous electricity supply,” the statement said.
