Here’s the scoop:

The Caxton Joburg North branch is looking for a MULTIMEDIA JOURNALIST to join their award-winning team.

The job entails:

• Writing in-depth news articles daily for the web and newspaper, following a prescribed style guide

• The journalist will be based in our Craighall newsroom and will be required to  frequent Joburg’s northern suburbs daily, mainly in the Midrand areas

• Meeting targets, reporting community and breaking news efficiently, and interact with community members and stakeholders to report on crime, municipal issues, community news, school activities, entertainment, and sport.

• Ability to use all forms of multimedia

Requirements:

• Fluent in English

• Excellent news writing skills in English: grammar, spelling, punctuation and sentence structure

• Ability to meet non-negotiable deadlines

• Must have an extensive knowledge of the Joburg northern suburbs, especially Midrand

• Ability to do research

• Attention to detail

• Adherence to in-house editorial style

• Must be prepared to work irregular hours, including weekends and evenings

• Good time management, planning and organisational skills

• In-depth knowledge of a variety of news beats

• Experience in reporting on council meetings

• Work independently as well as part of a team

• Follow instructions

• Be passionate about the community, local news and journalism

A degree or diploma in journalism, combined with at least two to three years of experience in a newsroom, will be advantageous. Candidates who are invited to an interview will be required to write a variety of tests.
