Midrand Senior Citizens (MSC) marked Women’s Day with an afternoon of celebration, friendship, and togetherness on August 16, bringing its members together for a special event honouring the contribution of women.
MSC caters for senior citizens aged 80 and older and has a membership of about 60, with the club providing members with an opportunity to socialise, stay active, and enjoy meaningful fellowship.

The Women’s Day celebration was co-ordinated by Kay Naicker and Devi Moodley, and formed part of the club’s annual programme of social events. The celebration began with a special entrance for the ladies, who arrived dressed in elegant outfits and were welcomed by fellow members carrying baskets filled with gifts.
Each woman received a gift before pausing for photographs and making her way into the venue, which had been transformed with bronze and gold balloons, drapes, and centrepieces to create a warm and elegant atmosphere.

DJ Anver provided a selection of music throughout the programme, setting the tone as members took their seats and speakers addressed the gathering.
Naicker and Moodley guided the programme, which included reflections on the history of Women’s Day and the important role played by prominent women in shaping society. Naicker highlighted the contributions of several heroines and their lasting impact on generations of women.

MSC chairperson Logan Pillay welcomed members and spoke about the significance of Women’s Day, reminding attendees of the importance of recognising and celebrating women’s contributions.
Following the formal programme and vote of thanks, members enjoyed a meal, desserts, and refreshments before the celebration moved onto the dance floor. DJ Anver kept the energy high with Bhangra and popular music, encouraging members to dance and enjoy the afternoon together.
After a tea and coffee break, accompanied by snacks, the young at heart returned to the dance floor, continuing the festivities until it was time to head home.
MSC public relations officer Carmen Rajdew said the event reflected the spirit of friendship and community that continues to bring members together.

“Once again, our Midrand Senior Citizens Club never fails to provide fellowship, laughter, dance, and togetherness.”
The club hopes to continue growing, while providing members with a space to enjoy companionship and positive social interaction.
“May our MSC grow in leaps and bounds, providing much-needed harmony and joy for two to four hours each Sunday.”
