NOTICE OF A WATER USE LICENCE APPLICATION (WULA) FOR THE CONSOLIDATION AND AMENDMENT OF THE WATER USE LICENSE (WUL) AND ITS ADDENDUM GRANTED TO SOUTH DEEP JV: SOUTH DEEP GOLD MINE INVITATION TO REGISTER AS AN INTERESTED AND AFFECTED PARTY (I&AP); AND COMMENT ON THE DRAFT INTEGRATED WATER AND WASTE MANAGEMENT PLAN (IWWMP) DWS Reference Number: WU31462 Manyabe Consultancy (Pty) Ltd Project Code: 202330 Notice is given in terms of Section 17(3) of Government Notice Regulation (GNR.) No. 267 in Government Gazette No. 40713 (24 March 2017), of the National Water Act, 1998 (Act No.36 of 1998) (NWA) of the South Deep JV: South Deep Gold Mine (Pty) Ltd`s intent to submit an application for the consolidation and amendment of the Water Use License (WUL). The mine is located in Westonaria within the Rand West City Local Municipality, West Rand District Municipality, Gauteng Province. South Deep JV: South Deep Gold Mine was originally granted a WUL in terms of Chapter 4 of the NWA on 21 November 2011 (License number: 03/C22J/ACFGIJ/1369). The WUL was amended and reissued on 19 November 2018 (License number: 08/C22J/GCEFIJA/8705), which superseded the 2011 WUL. The WUL also had errors. An addendum to the issued WUL was issued on 29 July 2021. Currently, under the 2018 WUL and its addendum, South Deep JV: South Deep Gold Mine is authorised for the following water uses: Section 21(a), (c),(e),(f),(g),(i) and (j) of the NWA. The proposed WUL and its addendum amendments, and consolidation project require authorisation for water uses under Section 21(a), (b),(c),(e),(f),(g),(i) and (j). Manyabe Consultancy (Pty) Ltd (MC) has been appointed as an independent Environmental Assessment Practitioner (EAP), to undertake the aforementioned application processes on behalf of South Deep JV: South Deep Gold Mine. The application will be submitted to the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS). In terms of Section 50 and 52 of the NWA, South Deep JV: South Deep Gold Mine is making an amendment application for an Integrated WUL (IWUL) for the various Section 21 water uses. AVAILABILITY OF THE DRAFT IWWMP FOR PUBLIC REVIEW: The Draft IWWMP for the abovementioned project, is available for public review and comment from Friday, 10 July 2026 to Thursday, 10 September 2026 on MC`s website (www.manyabeconsultancy.com) and at the Thusanang Public Library. INVITATION TO FOCUS GROUP MEETINGS FOR THE REVIEW OF THE DRAFT IWWMP: Venue Date Time Two (2) Public meetings for the general public: Lido Lodge along R28 22 July 2026 10:00 – 12:00 Westonaria Public Library 22 July 2026 14:00 – 16:00 Two (2) focus group meetings to be convened online (via MS Teams) for the following groups of Service Providers stakeholders: Industry and Government Non- Governmental Organisations 24 July 2026 10:00 – 12:00 The Background Information Document (BID) and letters providing details on the proposed project are being distributed to all identified Interested and Affected Parties (I&APs), which have appended a Locality Map showing the locality of the proposed project.
