I have heard a few residents suggesting road closures in President Park and I just want to put forward the arguments up for discussion.
Having thousands of students in our neighbourhood on a daily basis require a bit of serious thinking about the security of our area in general. We all know that Alsation Road provides a thoroughfare in conjunction with Ridge and West roads.
Students are walking in the same road which is a major traffic carrier from Kempton Park, Thembisa in the East to Midrand, Centurion and Woodmead.
Criminals also use the road and they see the hundreds of students in the streets, therefore evil plans are hatched. We had the murder last week of a young girl and a week later a hijacking in Ridge Road. There have also been hijackings in Stag and Alsation roads.
If Alsation Road is closed off at Allandale Road the area will be much more secure. Stag Road used to go through to Allandale Road and that is still an alternative to consider.
We cannot secure our area if it belongs to the traffic passing through and not to us. With Midrand Graduate Institute in our neighbourhood and talking of doubling its student numbers, surely it would be beneficial to have a secure student village. This would be a great case to put forward to the road traffic planners.
