People need to take charge

VORNA VALLEY - Margaret O’Carroll of Vorna Valley writes that so many people do not, will not, or cannot pay for services they receive such as water and street repair.

Many of the poor indigent people that live in poor surroundings are seriously lazy.

Why can they not get together and improve their living area by a tidying up. Put paper in one place, plastic in another, tins another and bricks into holes or packed neatly.

A municipal truck or recycling company could be called to take away.

It would improve their vision of everyday living. One street competing with others for the cleanest street or area.

Some of the Vorna Valley residents have got together a few times in the last year to clean up the spruit environs. This is purely voluntary.

If one is unable to pay for services they expect, surely they could use their own physical power to improve living conditions and surroundings.

Just stop thinking that the municipality and government must do everything for us.

There is a saying, ‘God helps those who help themselves’. Perhaps church services could include these words sometimes.
