Breakthru Midrand joins Rhino trail run
MIDRAND - On 24 September a few Breakthru Midrand club members took part in a worthy cause by participating in a Rhino trail run.
The race took place at Tygervalley College’s grounds in Pretoria where participants undertook 5km, 10km and 20km runs.
The race was in aid of the Stop Rhino Poaching Initiative.
Duane Newman, chairperson of Breakthru Midrand said, “Leon Barker, the Breakthru Midrand men’s captain, ran the 10km race and was the overall winner of the race. Barker went on to run a 10km race the same evening at Weskoppies Hospital and was third veteran man. At the same Rhino trail run Tim Walwyn ran the 20km run and came second overall.”
Newman added, “We are very proud of Leon and his achievement. The club has had other great running in the past week. Sontage Mabale was first Master Man at the Clover 10km run in Irene and he was the first Master Man at the Sportsman’s Warehouse 15km run held in Boksburg on Heritage Day. Penny Visser was the first Grandmaster Lady at the Weskoppies 10km run, also on Heritage Day.”
