Midrand club to take part in cycle challenge.

MIDRAND - Midrand Country Cyclists will take part in the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge on 17 November.

Peter Hausler, a 71 year-old cyclist and chairperson of Midrand Country Cyclists, the organising club of the cycle challenge, said, “We are expecting up to 30 000 entries for the cycle challenge in the November race.

“After 16 years we are excited to see that we are still going strong. We also have a kiddies race on 9 November. We usually give notifications of road closures and we cycle on highways as they are more user-friendly. We have a call centre where motorists can call to find out how they can move from place to place with all the road closures in place.”

“The cycle challenge is run over three days. In the past we received the award for best organised road race in South Africa, twice. We are also the second largest road race of its kind in the world.

“Every year we have a lot of spectators on the cycle challenge route. People braai and cheer on cyclists from the side of the road. It is encouraging to the cyclists. We are looking forward to the next cycle challenge and are amazed at the entries we have received,” said Hausler.
