Cricket club comes out tops in week two of season
MIDRAND - Week two of the season served up a mixed bag of results for the three Midrand Cricket Club sides.
On 12 October, the SA5 side hosted Randfontein Cricket Club at its Olifants Cricket Oval home base. The home side won the toss and elected to bat and justified the decision by putting on a competitive score of 226 for 6 after 40 overs.
Teddy Makoanyane was the top scorer for the home side with a well-crafted 53 off 43 balls. This however would prove to be slightly below a defendable target as the opposition reached the target with four overs to spare. Nevertheless, the home side put up a great fight and had a lot of positives to take from the game.
The SA8 side took on Dalikay Cricket Club in Randburg. Still propelled by the highs of the previous week, the side went into this match bursting with confidence. The toss went in favour of the hosts who decided to field. This would prove to be a well-played decision. The SA8 side went on to make their hosts pay dearly as they put up a huge total of 403 in 40 overs.
The chief destroyers Rishen Maharaj and Lesley Govender featured once again. By the time the change of innings arrived, all fight had been stripped from the opposition. Midrand’s SA8 bowlers went on to make easy pickings of the opposition’s batting, dismissing them for a meagre 99 runs. The side took all points on offer and maintained their perfect record thus far.
On 13 October, the SU5 side visited Alberton Cricket Club for their return fixture. In a tightly fought match, the SU5 side fell short of their target scoring 203 runs. Kamran Zaki top scored with an innings of 59 runs.
On 19 October, Midrand Cricket Club SA8 will play against Midrand Knights at the club’s home base, starting at 1pm.
New players are welcomed to the club which is growing from strength to strength.
