Midrand racing teams Toyota Motorsport, Regent Racing and Motorite are revving their engines for the final round of the Donaldson Cross Country Championship.
Four crews are still in with a chance of winning the overall championship, and five drivers will vie for the driver championship. The production vehicle championship has been settled but there is a tight battle for the runner-up spot between the Ford Racing and Team Castrol Toyota teams.
The Donaldson Cross Country Championship will be held in Westonaria on 22 and 23 November. It will be only the second visit to the West Rand for crews after last year’s inaugural race. But with half the route for this year’s race completely new, memories of last year’s course will largely be irrelevant.
Former South African champion Archie Rutherford will be joined by comedian Barry ‘The Cousin’ Hilton in the cockpit of the Imperial Automotive Nissan Navara as they take on the cream of the crop in the production vehicle category.
“We have aimed at producing a route that is tight, interesting and technical,” said route director Adri Roets.
“Once again we have had great co-operation from Sibanye Gold, land owners and farmers in the area, and I think we have accomplished what we set out to achieve. The new territory we have found is mainly made up of rocky koppies and water crossings which will add spectator value,” added Roets.
The qualifying race will start at midday on 22 November and the final race will commence at 8.30am the following day.
