No sleeping for wakeboarders

MIDRAND - Wakeboarding fun at StokeCity.

The International Cable Wakeboarding event took place at Stokecity Extreme Sports Park in Midrand.

Amped Distributors, suppliers of Liquid Force hosted the event. Chantal Holtzhauzen of Liquid Force said, “We have nine riders competing today, four international riders and five from South Africa. We are also opening the sport to the public who want to try out knee boarding free. The reason we are doing this is to expose the sport more in South Africa.”

One of the Liquid Force riders, 18-year-old Candice Bacon said she was thrilled to be at the event. ” I have been wakeboarding for the past three years. It took me a long time to adapt to the sport but with the help of my group of friends from Capetown, I am doing well.”

Global team rider from America, Jimmy Lariche was one of the international riders that competed. He said, “I am excited to be in South Africa for wakeboarding. I have been doing the sport for 12 years. I was drawn to wakeboarding after I saw it on television. It is something I enjoy doing with friends.”

The company’s Kyle Holtzhauzen said, “We are so stoked for all the support over the last 10 years and this event is our way of saying thank you. The support from the international riders shows how impressed they are with the local scene. We are excited to be part of the growth of the sport in SA.”
