Week four of the cricket season presented more exciting cricket for the three Midrand Cricket Club sides.
The SA8 side hosted Caxton Khosa at the Olifansfontein Cricket Oval. This side is quickly staking a claim for league honours, having already recorded some impressive victories early on in the season.
Under threatening skies, the Midrand side would add the scalps of last year’s league winners to their list of victories as they walked away with a three-wicket win.
The SA5 side travelled to Randfontein for their third game of the season.
The toss went to the hosts who opted to field; the Midrand side suffered early setbacks as they lost both openers cheaply.
Midrand players Teddy Makoanyane and Mars Vickery steadied the innings with contributions of 39 and 74 respectively. At the close of innings, the Midrand side had amassed 189 runs for the loss of five wickets, and the opposition found themselves five overs short because of a slow over rate.
This meant 50 additional runs for the Midrand side, which took their score to 239. The bowling trend continued as the Midrand team also picked up early wickets.
Missed chances, however, would cost them dearly as the opposition’s number three and four, who were both dropped, went on to score half centuries. As the match neared its conclusion, the heavens opened up and left the final say to post-match calculations, which in the end saw the Randfontein side winning.
The SU5 side took on the Wanders Cricket Club at a sodden Sandton Sports Club.
The toss had to be delayed for an hour due to a wet outfield from the previous night, but after all the waiting the Midrand side won the toss and elected to bat.
Midrand look set to reach a formidable score before some poor shot selection from the middle order saw them reduced to 103 for five and eventually 168 all out in the 34th over.
The Wanderers side chased down the runs in the 19th over with seven wickets in hand.
