Kyalami runners celebrate wins

KYALAMI ESTATES - Kyalami Running Club celebrated its runners achievements during 2013 in its annual awards evening at Kyalami Country Club.

Men’s captain Anthony Tennant was awarded for being the club’s first man home in the Two Oceans marathon in a time of 5.11.9, while Sonja Ludick was the club’s first woman home in 5.21.52.

The club’s first man to finish the Comrades Marathon was Peter Swanepoel in 10.27.23, while first woman was Nikki Attwell (10.00.20). Moerieda MacKay was awarded the Spirit of Comrades Award for never giving up.

Mackay ran the marathon in support of The Starfish Foundation and raised R7 500. “Starfish and the children cheered me on as I was entering the stadium and the club’s Gillian Keartland and the team were also waiting for me inside,” she said. “It was amazing support and an awesome feeling just as I finished.”

The runners who performed the best in the club’s time trials during the year were also congratulated. In the 8km men’s time trial, Roy Odegard was the fastest while the fastest woman was Sonja Ludick. In the 5km time trial, Barry Keartland was fastest man and Nikki Attwell quickest woman.

The 5km fastest junior male was Shaun Putter and fastest junior female was Kirsten Grobler.
