Last over cricket drama
MIDRAND - All three Midrand Cricket Club sides were in action again on 22 and 23 November.
The club’s SA8 side played at their home ground, the Olifantsfontein Oval, against an unbeaten Zulfikaars Cricket Club side.
The game had to be halted for close to two hours as the heavens opened up, causing the game to be reduced to a 25-over slug fest. On resumption, the home side would go on to dominate their opponents, displaying some of their star prowess that has made them one of the sides to beat. But having done the bulk of the work by putting up a challenging total and then blowing over the opposition’s top order, the home side would be swindled by a street-smart Zulfikaars lower order.
The visitors snatched victory in a pulsating final over.
In the meantime, Midrand Cricket Club’s SA5 side scooped all points on offer with a victory away from home at Crescent Cricket Club. Some brilliant batting from Kevin Pillay and Ahmed Manack, who scored 82 runs and 45 respectively, as well as inspired bowling by Victor Pamidimukkala featuring 4 wickets for 17 runs, secured the side’s third victory of the season.
However, the SU5 side failed to keep up their winning streak when they lost to Bank Cricket Club, despite valiant efforts by Kamran Zaki who racked up his third half century of the season with a solid 55. The captain, Niresh Masana, registered his first half century with 59 not out.
The club holds its practice sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Summerhill School, and new members are welcome.
