Kinght’s second team ends season on high

MIDRAND - Midrand Knights Cricket Club's second team beat the previously unbeaten and top-of-the-log side, Zulfikaars Cricket Club's second team.

Chairman of Midrand Knights Cricket Club, Jeremy Meiring said the Kights team won the toss and elected to bowl, as the team has done for most of the season with great success.

“Man of the match, Pradeep Kumar, who took 4/26 in eight overs, led from the front with the new ball, ” said Meiring. “He was well supported by fellow new ball bowler Somu Shekar (2/16) and Bhagath Lavu (2/17). The trio caused endless problems to the Zulfikaars’ batsmen and bowled them out for a meagre 120 runs in 32 overs.”

Knights lost both their openers very early as Zulfikaars bowlers came out firing and showed why they were the only unbeaten side in the league.

The Knights innings was stabilised when Rajaram Bingi was joined by Amar Jamulla at the crease.

The in-form duo of Jamulla (50*) and Bingi (41), put on a solid 80-run partnership, and took the match away from Zulfikaars.

“We were cruising at one stage, but lost a cluster of wickets in the 19th over, which put a little dent on what would have been a solid performance,” said Meiring. “We managed to chase the total down for the loss of eight wickets. At the end of the day a win is a win. I would like to congratulate captain Suman Choudary and his chargers for ending top of the log, going into the holiday break.

“Well done guys, I’m really proud of the achievements of Midrand Knights Cricket Club,” said Meiring.
