Knights bowl their way to the top
MIDRAND - Midrand Knights Cricket Club's second team travelled to Marks Park to take on Wits Lions Cricket Club in an SA8 fixture.
The Knights team won the toss and bowled first.
Chairperson of Midrand Knights Cricket Club Jeremy Meiring said Knights’ opening bowlers, Somu Shekar and Phani Lingam, bowled a very competent opening spell and took a few quick wickets.
“They were instrumental, along with Lohit Tripurana who ended with figures of 2/15, in restricting Wits Lions to 177/8 in 40 overs. Shekar ended with figures of 2/23 in seven overs, while Lingam’s contribution was 1/17 in six overs,” said Meiring.
He said the chase got off to a good start, with opener Vinesh Reddy showing some excellent form. “His knock of 67 laid the foundation for a very efficient run chase. Reddy was well supported by Rajaram Bingi who yet again contributed with the bat by scoring an impressive 35,” said Meiring.
Knights knocked the runs off in the 30th over, with the loss of six wickets, therefore defeating Wits Lions by four wickets.
Meiring said the result would put Knights back at the top of the league.
