Lanz for the win!
MIDRAND - Fabienne Lanz raced to victory in the opening round of the South African Regional Championships in Vereeniging.
Due to the Highveld’s summer thunderstorms, Lanz had limited practice sessions in the dry, giving her a big challenge for the following day’s race.
Qualifying went like clockwork as she found a good open track in front of her to lay down decent lap times and put her kart on pole.
After the first heat Lanz said, “I am still trying to grasp how fantastic heat one went down for us. From the moment the lights went out, I just put my foot down and kept going forward.”
Building a comfortable lead, Lanz was in her zone and won the first heat of the season with relative ease. The kart’s handling had changed in the 50°C track heat, but Lanz debated whether to change anything as the set-up seemed to be working.
Lanz won the second heat and her team decided to make a small change which did not work out in her favour. Lanz kept her cool as she had won the first two heats and settled for second place in the third.
Lanz went on to win the day overall – another superb start to the year for the kart champion.
“The support given to me at the race was once again awesome,” she said. “I appreciate it so much and it fills me with joy to see people excited and happy for us, showing the boys that the girls can win as well.”
