Paddlers challenge Dusi

MIDRAND - Ian Faller from Midrand was one of the many Gauteng paddlers who lined up at the start line at this year's Dusi marathon.

Partnered with Gregor Wolter, the two Centurion club paddlers had a good run finishing in 168th position, out of some 775 boats that completed the race, in a time of 11 hours and four minutes.

Despite the blistering hot conditions in the Valley of a Thousand Hills, over a thousand paddlers swam, ran, walked and dragged themselves and their boats across the rough terrain between Pietermaritzburg and Durban from 13 to 15 February. Their aim: to complete the gruelling challenge, the worlds toughest canoe endurance race – 20km over three days.

Only a tenth of those who start the race complete it.
